The Oyo State Police Command has initiated an intensive manhunt and rescue operation following a series of coordinated attacks on educational institutions and communities in the Oriire Local Government Area early Friday, May 15, 2026.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed that armed hoodlums operating on motorcycles launched simultaneous invasions of Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, and the joint premises of Community Grammar School and L.A. Primary School, Esiele.
Casualties and Abductions
The attacks resulted in two confirmed fatalities. Mr. Adesiyan, an assistant headmaster, was killed during the assault. Additionally, a commercial motorcyclist was fatally shot after reportedly resisting the attackers' attempts to seize his vehicle.
The police confirmed that several individuals were abducted during the raid, including:
Mrs. Alamu Folawe, Vice Principal of Community Grammar School, Esiele.
An unspecified number of pupils, students, and staff members.
While the investigation is ongoing, the Command noted that no student fatalities have been recorded as of the time of the report.
Operational Response
Following the incident, the attackers reportedly fled toward a nearby forest, abandoning and setting ablaze a Toyota Corolla vehicle belonging to the abducted Vice Principal.
In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, visited the affected sites alongside other service commanders for an on-the-spot assessment. The CP has ordered the immediate deployment of:
Tactical Teams and Operational Assets to secure the area.
Intelligence Platforms to track the perpetrators' movement.
Joint Search Parties to facilitate the safe rescue of all victims.

The Oyo State Police Command has appealed to the public for calm and urged residents of Oriire and surrounding areas to remain vigilant. Authorities are calling on citizens to provide any credible information that may assist in the apprehension of the suspects and the safe return of the abductees.
