Suspected terrorists launched a coordinated predawn raid on a Police Mobile Force (PMF) camp in the Tenebo community of Kaiama Local Government Area, Kwara State, on Saturday. The attack resulted in the deaths of at least three officers and left two others with varying degrees of injuries.
The Incident at Tenebo
The assault reportedly occurred around 3:00 AM when heavily armed gunmen stormed the facility. Local sources indicate the attackers utilized the element of surprise, opening fire on the camp and engaging the personnel in a heavy shootout.
The violence triggered widespread panic within the Tenebo community, with many residents fleeing their homes into nearby bushes as gunfire echoed throughout the area.
The Kwara State Police Command has officially acknowledged the breach. Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident in a brief statement:
“I regret to confirm that an attack on the PMF Camp occurred in the early hours of today. I will provide more accurate and detailed information shortly.”
Escalating Insecurity in Kwara State
This latest attack follows a series of violent incursions across the state within the past week, signaling a worrying surge in banditry and insurgent activity.
Ifelodun LGA Invasion: On Tuesday, suspected bandits invaded the Oko-Erese community along the Oro-Ago axis. The assailants targeted farmlands, killing two farmers and abducting two women. One survivor managed to escape with severe head injuries after being assaulted by the group.
Ambush in Babanla: Also on Tuesday afternoon, armed men ambushed a forest guard, identified as Saheed, and a civilian, Rashid Oke-Apata, while they were traveling by motorcycle in the Babanla community. The ambush resulted in one abduction and left the other victim critically injured.
Current Situation
Security agencies are reportedly compiling details of the Tenebo attack as they move to reinforce the area. There is growing concern among residents regarding the frequency of these attacks, particularly the targeting of both security installations and vulnerable agrarian communities.
State authorities have yet to release a formal briefing on the identities of the deceased officers or the specific measures being taken to track the assailants and rescue the abducted women.
