Security officers at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ibara, Abeokuta, arrested Mrs. Iyabo Sowunmi after she allegedly tried to smuggle illegal drugs to her son, Dare Sowunmi, an inmate on death row.

The Ogun State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service reported that the arrest occurred during routine screening at the facility's main entrance. Security personnel inspected a sachet of beverage powder and discovered it was packed with "Colos," a psychoactive synthetic drug.

Following the interception, correctional officers detained Mrs. Sowunmi and transferred her to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and prosecution.

The Controller of Corrections for the Ogun State Command, Abioye Adesina, praised the staff for their vigilance. He emphasized that the facility maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward contraband and warned that anyone attempting to smuggle illegal items into correctional centers will face immediate legal consequences.
