Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has officially joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress. The move comes three months after his departure from the African Democratic Congress, which followed allegations of widespread manipulation during the party's presidential primary.

Speaking in Abuja, Lawal endorsed the NDC presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the upcoming 2027 general elections. He urged Nigerians troubled by national challenges—such as insecurity, widespread hunger, ignorance, and disease—to unite behind the opposition platform as a viable path forward for the country. He expressed optimism that the coalition would achieve victory by May 2027.

Senator Seriake Dickson, the National Leader of the NDC, formally welcomed Lawal into the fold. Highlighting his extensive political background, Dickson praised Lawal's track record as an experienced organizer and political activist. Lawal has been appointed to oversee NDC operations and campaign activities across the Northeastern zone of the country, providing strategic direction for candidates in the region.

Lawal's departure from the ADC stemmed from disputes over the party's primary process, which he previously criticized as fundamentally flawed. He alleged that voting outcomes were altered to favor specific candidates and that declared winners were wrongfully replaced, prompting his ultimate exit from the party.
