ABUJA — President Bola Tinubu has expressed profound grief over the loss of personnel from the 29 Task Force Brigade, Operation HADIN KAI, following a coordinated terrorist assault on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The attack, which occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, was confirmed by Defence Headquarters. Reports indicate that the soldiers fought valiantly to repel the insurgents, successfully preventing the group from overrunning nearby civilian communities.

A Tribute to Sacrifice

In a statement released following the incident, the President described the fallen soldiers—led by Brigadier-General Oseni Omoh Braimah—as "unforgettable and irreplaceable" heroes of the nation.

"The government will never forget their sacrifices. Their sacrifices will not be in vain," President Tinubu stated. "Because of the courage and dedication of our troops on the frontline, our resolve to defeat terrorism and all forms of violence across Nigeria is stronger than ever."

Strategic Resilience Amidst Desperation

Addressing the current security climate, the President noted that the recent surge in insurgent counterattacks is a direct reaction to the "sustained and intense" land and air offensives conducted by the Nigerian Armed Forces. He characterized these hostile actions as a sign of desperation from terrorist leadership facing significant losses.

President Tinubu issued a clear directive to the Military High Command and troops across all theatres of operation:  

• Maintain Momentum: He urged soldiers not to be discouraged or weary in the face of loss.

• Government Commitment: He reaffirmed the administration's pledge to provide advanced equipment and prioritize the welfare of those in active service.

• National Unity: He called on the media and the public to stand in solidarity with the military and refrain from celebrating or condoning attacks against the state’s defenders.
