Former Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (retd.), has suggested that all Nigerian citizens should undergo basic military training. Speaking on the African Leadership Podcast hosted by Ken Giami, he explained that such training helps people understand the intense physical and mental demands of national defense.

According to Musa, experiencing hardships such as hunger, exhaustion, and sleep deprivation provides a deeper perspective on life and builds personal endurance. He emphasized that soldiers make profound sacrifices, often risking their lives and spending long periods away from their families to keep the nation safe.

He also urged the public to show greater appreciation and respect for military personnel, noting that they are family members—fathers, brothers, and sisters—who endure harsh weather conditions day and night to protect the country.

Additionally, Musa addressed national security, pointing out that increased border infiltration has been linked to the withdrawal of three Sahelian nations: Niger, Burkina Faso, and Mali. To counter this, Nigeria is actively strengthening bilateral security partnerships with neighboring countries, including Cameroon, to better secure its southern borders.
