Former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Sadiya Umar Farouq

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially declared the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, wanted following allegations of public fund diversion and abuse of office.

The anti graft agency published the declaration on its official website on Saturday, seeking public assistance in locating the former cabinet member. This development follows a legal escalation in the investigation into financial irregularities during her tenure.

Details of the Declaration

According to the official notice, the 52 year old Zamfara State indigene is being sought in connection with a high-profile probe into the management of social intervention funds. The Commission provided the following details regarding her last known location:

Last Known Address: EN008, Okpo River, off Agulu Street, Maitama, Abuja.

Action Requested: Members of the public with information regarding her whereabouts are urged to contact the nearest EFCC office or use the designated hotlines provided by the agency.

Judicial Context

The EFCC’s move comes on the heels of a judicial order from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court in Apo. On April 16, 2026, the court issued a formal warrant for her arrest after she reportedly failed to honor previous invitations by investigators.

Background

Sadiya Umar Farouq was appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2019, making history at the time as the youngest minister in the federal cabinet. Her ministry was responsible for overseeing critical social investment programs, including the National Home-Grown School Feeding Program and the N-Power initiative.

Since the transition of power, her administration of these multi-billion naira programs has come under intense scrutiny, leading to the current allegations of diverted public resources. The EFCC has reiterated its commitment to ensuring all individuals linked to the alleged financial misconduct are brought to justice.
