The Nigeria Police Force has summoned social media activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), and questioned Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Moshood Jimoh regarding public accusations made by the activist.
In an official statement, police authorities confirmed that the Force Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Abuja issued a formal invitation to Otse on July 30, 2026, requesting him to provide evidence supporting his claims. Simultaneously, AIG Jimoh was called in for questioning as part of the department's internal accountability process.
Key Details of the Investigation
-
Accountability: The police emphasized that internal investigations apply to all personnel regardless of rank, ensuring that no officer is above the law.
-
Ongoing Court Case: Authorities clarified that the criminal matter referenced by the activist has already been investigated and filed in a competent court based on advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP). Because the case is currently subjudice, the police stated they will not try the matter through media campaigns or public commentary.
-
Citizen Rights: While acknowledging the public's constitutional right to freedom of expression and institutional accountability, the police cautioned that these rights do not protect individuals from making unverified allegations or defamation.
The police have urged VeryDarkMan to cooperate with the ongoing investigation by the Force CID and allow the judicial system to handle the active court case.
Authorities assured the public that any officer found guilty of wrongdoing will face proper disciplinary action, while individuals who deliberately make false claims to damage the reputation of the police institution may face legal consequences.
