Bandits Abduct 9, Injure Two in Sokoto Community Attack

Armed bandits have abducted nine residents and injured two others during a late-night attack on Chacho community in Wurno Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

A relative of one of the victims, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the assailants stormed the village at about 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to the source, the attackers gained entry through a route linking the community to the Sabon Birni forest, a location widely believed to serve as a hideout for criminal groups.

“We were sleeping outside when someone raised the alarm that bandits had attacked our village. We immediately fled for our lives. We later heard gunshots from another part of the community, as our house is located at the centre of the village,” the source said.

The attackers reportedly abducted seven women and two elderly men during the raid, while two other residents sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Residents of the area have expressed concern over the increasing incidents of banditry, blaming the situation on the absence of adequate security presence.

The Sokoto State Police Command confirmed the attack. However, its spokesperson, Ahmad Rufai, stated that authorities are still verifying the exact number of abducted victims.
