President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced a strategic reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council (FEC), resulting in the departure of two high-profile cabinet members and the elevation of key officials to drive the administration's "Renewed Hope" agenda.

The directive was formalized in a memorandum issued by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume. The reshuffle primarily impacts the leadership of the Ministries of Finance and Housing.

Leadership Transitions

The reorganization sees a significant shift in the management of the nation’s economy and infrastructure:

Ministry of Finance & Coordinating Minister of the Economy: Mr. Wale Edun will vacate his role, handing over leadership to Taiwo Oyedele. Mr. Oyedele, who previously served as the Minister of State within the same ministry, steps into the senior role to oversee Nigeria’s fiscal policy.

Ministry of Housing and Urban Development: Arc. Ahmed Dangiwa is set to exit the cabinet. He has been directed to hand over his duties to the current Minister of State in the ministry.

New Appointment: Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been named as the ministerial nominee and Minister-Designate for Housing and Urban Development to fill the vacancy.

Strategic Objectives and Legal Framework

According to SGF George Akume, the adjustments are designed to "strengthen cohesion and synergy in governance." The administration aims to accelerate the delivery of economic reforms and ensure more impactful results for the Nigerian public.

The SGF further clarified that the President’s actions are a full exercise of the executive powers granted under Sections 147 and 148 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999, as amended).

"These changes are aimed at achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda." — George Akume, SGF

Timeline for Implementation

The President has set a strict deadline for the transition of power. All handover and takeover processes are mandated to be finalized by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

President Tinubu concluded the announcement by expressing his gratitude to the outgoing ministers, Wale Edun and Ahmed Dangiwa, for their dedicated service to the nation and extended his best wishes for their future endeavors.
