Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has asserted that a joint presidential ticket featuring Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso would possess a significantly higher likelihood of winning the 2027 presidential election compared to separate individual runs.

Speaking in an interview with Symfoni TV, Lawal estimated that an Obi-Kwankwaso alliance would hold a 70 per cent probability of success. In comparison, he projected a 50 per cent chance for President Bola Tinubu and dismissed the prospects of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, predicting an electoral defeat for him.

Lawal characterized individual runs by Obi or Kwankwaso as unsuccessful endeavors, emphasizing that their combined political strength is necessary to mount a formidable challenge. Furthermore, he expressed strong opposition to Atiku's potential candidacy, citing past political disagreements following his own resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Lawal previously alleged that irregularities marred the ADC presidential primary that led to Atiku's emergence as a candidate, a claim disputed by the party.
