Ibrahim Shekarau, former governor of Kano State, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Shekarau announced his defection on Sunday at his residence in Kano, marking another shift in his long political career. He served as governor of Kano State from 2003 to 2011 under the now-defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

Following the merger of the ANPP into the APC in 2014, Shekarau joined the PDP. He later returned to the APC in 2018 before leaving again in May 2022 to align with the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), citing a prolonged leadership dispute with Abdullahi Ganduje, former governor of Kano State.

In August 2022, Shekarau defected from the NNPP back to the PDP. His latest move to the APC underscores a pattern of shifting political affiliations amid evolving alliances within Kano State and Nigeria’s broader political landscape.
