The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially zoned its presidential ticket for the 2027 general election to the Southern region of the country. This strategic decision was reached during the party’s national convention held on Saturday.
In a move aimed at maintaining regional balance, the party also resolved to reserve the 2031 presidential ticket for the North.
Key Convention Highlights
Zoning Resolution: The motion to zone the upcoming tickets was moved by Afam Victor and seconded by Seyi Sowumi. The resolution was adopted by a consensus of the delegates, signaling the party's commitment to a rotational presidency.
NEC Ratification: Beyond the zoning announcement, the convention served as a platform to solidify the party’s leadership structure. A motion moved by Victor Umeh led to the formal ratification of all members of the National Executive Committee (NEC).
"The adoption of this zoning formula underscores our party's dedication to national unity and equity," a party spokesperson noted following the convention.
By establishing a roadmap for the next two election cycles, the NDC aims to streamline internal party dynamics and present a unified front ahead of the 2027 polls.
