The former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has officially resigned his membership from the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing recent internal developments within the party’s Delta State chapter.
The announcement was made public on Thursday, May 22, 2026, via a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Sunday Areh. According to the statement, Omo-Agege’s decision followed extensive consultations with key political associates and supporters, who collectively concluded that his political future and the interests of his constituents would be better served outside the ruling party.
'No Longer a Sitting Duck'
In his formal resignation letter, addressed to the APC Chairman of Orogun Ward 2 in the Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Omo-Agege expressed a need for political realignment to effectively represent his people.
"I will not remain a sitting duck in a party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria," the letter read.
Omo-Agege, who represented the Delta Central Senatorial District and served as the Deputy President of the 9th Senate, expressed his gratitude to the APC leadership and members for the opportunities granted to him to serve in various capacities during his tenure. As part of his exit, he requested the immediate removal of his name from all official APC membership registers and communication platforms.
Continued Political Engagement
Despite his departure from the ruling party, the former lawmaker assured his supporters of his unwavering commitment to the socioeconomic and political development of his constituency and the nation. He emphasized that he will remain actively engaged in political leadership and advocacy outside the structures of the APC.
The statement did not disclose which political platform the former Deputy Senate President intends to join next.
