The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has expressed agreement with recent remarks made by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, regarding President Bola Tinubu’s handling of the country's security issues. During an interview with Chude Jideonwo released on YouTube, Obi addressed the cleric's comments, stating that the assessment of the administration's efforts was accurate but argued that the current results indicate a need for a change in leadership.

Competence and Capacity in Governance

While acknowledging the President's efforts, Obi emphasized that Nigeria's current socio-economic and security challenges require more than just hard work. He argued that the core issue facing the nation's leadership is one of capacity and competence. According to the former Anambra State governor, effective governance relies on specific pillars, including:

  • Competence: The ability to execute effective policies.

  • Capacity: Having the mental and physical stamina to handle complex national issues.

  • Character and Commitment: Maintaining integrity and dedication to public service.

  • Compassion: Understanding and addressing the plight of the citizens.

Obi suggested that the current administration has reached its limit and that the President should step down to rest, allowing leaders with the necessary capability to take over.

Evaluation of Candidates for 2027

Looking ahead to the 2027 presidential election, Obi urged the Nigerian electorate to carefully evaluate candidates based on their track records and current policy proposals. He stressed the importance of comparing a leader's past achievements with their future plans to determine their suitability for the nation's highest office.

This response follows recent statements by Pastor Adeboye, who defended the administration against critics by noting that the President had fulfilled his executive duties by directing the military. However, the cleric also voiced serious concerns over ongoing terrorism and kidnapping, calling on the government to increase its efforts against criminal elements and their financial backers.
