Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has issued a powerful call to action for a united vision and strategic investments within Igbo land to fast track sustainable economic growth across the South East.
Speaking as a guest lecturer at an event in Enugu themed "Transcend Beyond Borders," Governor Soludo emphasized the urgent need for a mindset shift. He pointed out that over half of the Igbo population currently lives, works, and invests outside their ancestral base a reality that demands serious reflection on how individual successes can be harnessed to drive regional prosperity.
Bridging Personal Success and Collective Growth
While commending the remarkable global achievements of Igbo entrepreneurs in business, trade, and innovation, the governor noted that a noticeable gap still exists between private milestones and widespread infrastructural development at home. He argued that individual wealth and isolated accomplishments are not enough to build lasting empires, stressing that true influence and regional power can only be achieved through strong unity, organizational structure, and purposeful strategic alignment.
Empowering the Next Generation
A major pillar of the governor’s address focused on preparing the youth for the demands of the modern, interconnected global economy. He underscored the importance of continuous learning, advanced skill acquisition, and a strong work ethic.
-
Value Creation: Young people were encouraged to channel their energy into high-value technology, global enterprises, and innovation rather than unproductive local tendencies or social vices.
-
Public Service as Philanthropy: Soludo redefined public service as a noble form of giving back, urging the younger generation to step into leadership roles to help bridge the gap between private achievement and societal progress.
A Roadmap for the Future
To transform the South East into a thriving economic hub, the governor advocated for a proactive approach to rebuilding the homeland. This includes cleaning up the environment, modernizing infrastructure, and moving away from empty rhetoric toward practical, long-term development plans. Furthermore, he noted that overcoming past political grievances and historical challenges requires smart economic diplomacy and pragmatic engagement with both the Nigerian government and the international community.
Ultimately, Governor Soludo concluded that collective action, visionary leadership, and deliberate reinvestment are the foundational keys to turning the immense potential of the Igbo people both at home and in the diaspora into lasting, generational prosperity.
