Popular Nigerian dancer and socialite Iweh Odinaka, popularly known as Poco Lee, is currently being held on remand in the United Kingdom and is expected to appear before a London court in September over an alleged assault offence.

The development was disclosed by Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of the Community of Nigerians in the United Kingdom.

Kuti, who confirmed the development to our correspondent on Monday, said Poco Lee is currently in a UK prison and is scheduled to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court on September 15, 2026, at 10am.

According to Kuti, the court appearance is expected to be a plea hearing, during which the accused would ordinarily indicate whether he intends to plead guilty or not guilty to the allegation.

He also said he plans to attend the proceedings as part of his efforts to support Nigerians facing legal challenges in the UK.

Kuti stressed the importance of allowing the legal process to run its course, noting that Poco Lee remains innocent unless proven guilty by a court of law.

Reports concerning Poco Lee’s alleged detention in the UK began circulating online on August 19. The initial reports, which were not published by PUNCH Online, did not identify the alleged complainant or provide details of the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.

It was also unclear from the early reports whether formal charges had been filed against the dancer, while there was no immediate independent confirmation from UK police or the court regarding his reported arrest and detention.

Poco Lee, whose real name is Iweh Odinaka, is a prominent figure in Nigeria’s entertainment industry and is known for his dance performances, social media presence and collaborations with several Nigerian music stars.

An email sent to Snaresbrook Crown Court seeking confirmation of the reported proceedings had not received a response at the time of filing this report.
