The United States Supreme Court has blocked an executive order by President Donald Trump that aimed to end automatic birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants or individuals on temporary visas.

In a 6–3 ruling, the justices affirmed a century-and-a-half-old precedent, establishing that the executive action contradicted the Citizenship Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment. This decision effectively halts administration efforts to alter birthright citizenship policies through executive decree, leaving no immediate avenues for presidential reversal.

Rulings on Athletics and Campaign Finance

In addition to the citizenship case, the Supreme Court issued definitive rulings on two other major issues:

  • Transgender Athletes: The Court ruled that individual states hold the authority to prohibit transgender female athletes from competing in female sports categories within educational institutions.

  • Campaign Finance: The Court invalidated existing restrictions regarding the coordination of campaign spending, altering the regulations that govern how political campaigns and independent expenditure groups interact.
