Counter-terrorism police are spearheading an ongoing investigation following a major security incident near a military base in Gloucestershire. Five men remain in police custody after being initially detained on suspicion of committing violations under explosives legislation, followed by further arrests linked to the preparation of terrorist acts.

The operation began after local law enforcement received an emergency call during the early hours regarding three suspicious vehicles heading toward the military installation. Officers responded to the area, resulting in the interception and detention of the suspects.

As a safety precaution, emergency services established a large security cordon and advised approximately 85 nearby households to evacuate while specialist operations were conducted. Aerial video captured robotic equipment deployed near vans at the scene while a military bomb disposal unit worked to examine the vehicles.

A senior police official noted that efforts to clarify the full scope of the event are actively proceeding alongside local and national partners. The affected air base has a long-standing history as a forward operating site utilised by international military forces, and defense representatives stated that personnel maintain a posture of heightened vigilance in the wake of the security event. Officials observed that the development unfolds against a backdrop of increasing security concerns across Europe regarding potential hybrid warfare tactics.
