Nigerian street-pop artist Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, was disqualified from his celebrity boxing rematch against actor Charles Okocha on Friday following an abrupt departure from the ring.
The bout, organized by the Balmoral Group, ended in controversy during the opening round when Portable walked away from the match. Although he later attempted to return, event officials ruled the action a disqualification, awarding the victory to Okocha. Portable subsequently stated that he left the ring due to improper conduct by his opponent, alleging that Okocha utilized wrestling tactics during the fight.
In a statement released on Saturday, the singer's management, Zeh Nation/Dr Zeh, accepted full responsibility for the incident and issued an apology to the organizers, event staff, and supporters. The management acknowledged the public disappointment resulting from the sudden conclusion while requesting understanding for the artist's perspective.
Representatives for the singer confirmed that lessons have been learned from the event and assured supporters that steps will be taken to ensure improved conduct in future athletic engagements.
