Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has formally dismissed allegations that the mission is affiliated with any specific political party. Speaking during the May Holy Ghost Service, themed "Excellent Counsel," the cleric emphasized that the church remains a non-partisan place of worship open to all Nigerians.

A Multi-Party Congregation

Adeboye addressed rumors linking the RCCG to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing such claims as unfounded. He noted that the church’s membership spans the entire political spectrum, often seeing leaders from rival parties worshipping side-by-side.

"In RCCG, you will find a governor from the Peoples Democratic Party sitting down with a governor from the Labour Party, APC, and APGA," Adeboye stated. "By the special help of God, we are representative of the whole nation, and that is what we will continue to be."

While the cleric welcomed political figures to attend services, he maintained a strict policy regarding the sanctity of the pulpit. He clarified that the altar is reserved for spiritual matters and is not a platform for political speeches or endorsements, regardless of a visitor's status.

Divine Mandate for 2027

Regarding Nigeria’s political trajectory, Pastor Adeboye offered a spiritual perspective on the upcoming 2027 presidential elections. He asserted that the leadership of the nation is ultimately subject to divine providence rather than human maneuvering alone.

  • Divine Foreknowledge: Adeboye stated that the future ruler of Nigeria has already been decided by God.

  • Call to Prayer: He urged citizens to shift their focus away from political anxiety and toward prayer and personal responsibility.

Alignment with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN)

The General Overseer also clarified his stance on public activism, referencing his past participation in protests. He explained that these actions were taken in obedience to the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), the umbrella body for Christians in the country.

"If the [CAN Chairman] talks tomorrow and asks me to march, I will," Adeboye said, reaffirming his commitment to collective Christian leadership on national issues. However, he distanced himself from the title of "spiritual father to all Nigerian Christians," stating he is content with his role as the leader of the RCCG.

Defense of the Fold

In a closing message to his congregants, Adeboye urged members to refrain from engaging in public disputes or joining online criticisms against fellow believers. He pledged to protect the integrity of his members against external detractors and "bloggers," emphasizing internal discipline over public scrutiny.

"I will not allow any outsider to dictate to me how to deal with my own children," he concluded, calling for unity and caution against being used as tools for political agendas.
