The Anambra State Government has confirmed the arrest of Pastor Harrison Charles, the founder of Day Spring Assembly located in Awada, Onitsha. The cleric was taken into custody following severe allegations from church members accusing him of coercing married women into forced marital swaps and misappropriating members' spouses for himself.
The arrest marks the latest development in the state government's ongoing crackdown on fraudulent religious practitioners. This enforcement initiative has already led to the arraignment of eight other clerics, prompting more victims to come forward with accounts of their experiences.
Official Statements and Ongoing Investigation
Dr. Ejimofor Opara, the Special Adviser to the Governor of Anambra State on Media, confirmed the development via an official social media update. He stated that the suspect has been handed over to law enforcement, and a joint investigation between the Anambra State Police Command and the state government is currently underway.
According to Dr. Opara, the intervention was initiated by operatives of the Agunechemba security outfit following a viral video detailing multiple grievances against the clergyman.
Authorities Discover Eleven Infants
During the operation, authorities discovered eleven infants at the suspect's residence. Upon questioning, Pastor Charles claimed paternity of the children, asserting they were born to eleven different women whom he considers his wives. The cleric further stated that he could not verify the exact number of women he has married or the total number of children he has fathered.
Call for Public Information
The state government has appealed to the public for cooperation as the investigation continues. Mr. Ken Emeakayi, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Community Security, has urged anyone possessing relevant information regarding the pastor's operations or additional grievances to contact the state authorities immediately via the dedicated hotline: 08034182108.
