A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Inspector-General of Police and the Attorney-General of the Federation to grant Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi access to his lawyers while he remains in detention. However, Justice Obiora Egwuatu turned down his request for immediate release pending the conclusion of investigations.

The court directed the detained suspect to serve his fundamental rights enforcement suit to the police and the AGF within 72 hours, requiring them to explain why his requested reliefs should not be granted. The case has been adjourned until September 9 for further hearing.

Adeyemi has been in custody since July following a bench warrant issued for his arrest at a hideout in Osun State. He faces a pending eight-count charge filed by the police in November 2025, which includes allegations of forgery, fraud, and impersonation. Trial judge Justice Mohammed Umar has scheduled the defendant's plea for September 30.

Among those listed to testify are the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, several civil servants, and law enforcement officials. The charges stem from an October 2025 police petition filed by the Office of the Chief of Staff, alleging that Adeyemi forged presidential letterheads, official seals, and signatures to establish a fake agency known as the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council. Investigators claim he operated out of the Federal Secretariat Complex and falsely presented himself as the council's Director-General.

Prior to his arrest, Adeyemi denied the allegations, claimed his life was threatened, and alleged that he paid N400 million through an intermediary to the President's Chief of Staff to secure his position. He has since demanded an independent investigative panel to probe the controversy, including the budget allocation linked to the council, while maintaining his readiness to cooperate with a multi-stakeholder inquiry.
