Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly rejected allegations made by former President Olusegun Obasanjo claiming that Atiku bribed the late House of Representatives Speaker, Ghali Umar Na’Abba, to orchestrate an impeachment prior to the 2003 elections.

Responding through a statement issued by his media office, Atiku dismissed the claims as baseless, politically motivated, and timed to influence the political landscape ahead of the 2027 general election. He questioned the credibility of bringing forward such serious accusations only after the key witness, Na'Abba, had passed away and could no longer defend his reputation or respond to the claims.

Furthermore, Atiku challenged the timing and lack of official legal action during Obasanjo's presidency, arguing that if any criminal conduct had occurred, the administration possessed the full authority to pursue charges at the time. He attributed the renewed friction to their historical disagreement over the controversial third-term political agenda, which Atiku opposed in defense of the constitution.

Rather than engaging in prolonged disputes over events from two decades ago, Atiku emphasized that current national attention should focus on pressing economic issues, such as soaring food prices and rising public debt, alongside finding practical solutions for Nigeria's future.
