The Federal High Court in Abuja has struck out an eight-count criminal charge brought by the Federal Government against Adeniyi Adeyemi, who is accused of impersonating the Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.
Justice Mohammed Garba Umar terminated the case following a request by the prosecution to transfer the matter to the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory for a fresh trial.
The Director of Public Prosecutions of the Federation, Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, submitted the application during the court proceedings, explaining that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice had reassessed the case file previously handled by the Inspector-General of Police. The review highlighted jurisdictional and technical shortcomings in the original filing, as the alleged forgery offences fall under the authority of the FCT High Court rather than the Federal High Court.
Oyedepo confirmed that a new charge has already been filed at the FCT High Court to ensure Adeyemi is re-arraigned promptly, requesting the court to dismiss the present charge in line with legal procedure. Defence counsel Ibrahim Angulu, SAN, raised no objections to the application, leading Justice Umar to strike out the suit.
Adeyemi, 38, had been facing trial in suit FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2025 on charges of conspiracy and forgery alongside two alleged accomplices, identified only as Femi and Anu, who remain at large.
