A viral social media controversy has emerged in Nigeria following allegations linking a northern senator to notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide. A man named Hassan claimed that a childhood friendship with Gide allowed him to gain inside knowledge of an alleged network connecting criminal groups to influential political figures.

According to Hassan, he grew up in the same community as Gide before eventually relocating to Rivers State for his education. Years later, while working at the senator's residence, Hassan claimed he recognized associates of the bandit leader and began secretly recording activities using a memory card. Hassan alleged that after his surveillance was discovered, an order was made to kill him, but Gide intervened by warning him, allowing him to flee the country with some of his recorded materials.

The senator has strongly denied all allegations, dismissing them as an attempt to damage his political reputation. Giving a contrasting account, the lawmaker stated that his relationship with Hassan began when he supported the young man as an orphan seeking educational assistance. The senator explained that tensions arose after Hassan abandoned his education to pursue car dealing and allegedly began taking unauthorized photographs and videos of visitors at the residence.

The lawmaker confirmed that formal complaints have been filed with security agencies, leading to arrests and ongoing court proceedings. While Gide is a widely documented gang leader previously implicated in mass abductions across Niger and Kaduna states, Hassan’s claims regarding the senator remain unverified and have not been proven in a court of law. Both accounts present competing narratives, leaving authorities to investigate the matter through official channels.
