The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended prominent constitutional lawyer and human rights advocate, Professor Mike Ozekhome, from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The decision was finalized during the committee's 173rd General Meeting under the provisions of Paragraph 26(6) of the Guidelines for the Conferment of the SAN Rank. According to a statement issued by the LPPC Secretary and Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabiru Eniola Akanbi, the suspension is a temporary measure pending the outcome of ongoing disciplinary proceedings.
The case is currently under review by the LPPC’s Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee. Officials noted that the disciplinary action aims to preserve the integrity, dignity, and public prestige associated with the SAN rank. Under the terms of the suspension, Ozekhome is prohibited from presenting or holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria until a final determination is reached.
