The Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) has called for immediate and proactive security deployments following an armed invasion of the Narido community in Kauru Local Government Area.
In an open letter dated July 27, 2026, and addressed to the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, SOKAPU reported that approximately 30 individuals, including women and children, lost their lives during the Monday morning attack, while several others sustained injuries. Copies of the correspondence were also forwarded to Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani.
The letter, released by SOKAPU National President Engr. Samuel Tabara Kato, expressed deep concern over a rising wave of killings, kidnappings, and the destruction of farmlands across the region. While acknowledging existing security measures and police efforts, the union emphasized that rural communities in Kajuru, Chikun, Kauru, and Zangon Kataf local government areas remain vulnerable to recurrent assaults.
According to the union, these incidents have displaced numerous families from their ancestral lands and left agricultural settlements living in constant fear. SOKAPU advocated for a strategic shift from reactive measures to aggressive and proactive law enforcement.
To address the security challenges, the union outlined several key recommendations for the police command:
-
Strategic Deployments: Immediate stationing of mobile police and counter-terrorism units in high-risk communities and vulnerable forest corridors.
-
Agricultural Protection: Enhanced security patrols around farming districts to ensure safe conditions for planting, maintenance, and harvesting activities without the threat of violence or abduction.
-
Intelligence-Led Operations: Intensified efforts to identify and dismantle criminal hideouts prior to attacks rather than responding afterward.
-
Communication and Response: Improved liaison with affected populations and expedited responses to distress calls to restore public trust.
Concluding the appeal, SOKAPU underscored that safeguarding lives and property is a primary governmental duty, expressing hope that the police command will take decisive action to curb further violence in the region.
