Francis Ushie, a former Nigerian banker, has shared the challenging story of his family's relocation to Canada, which resulted in a prolonged separation from his wife and four children.
The couple, who faced previous relationship strains and disputes regarding alleged infidelity, hoped that moving abroad would offer a fresh start and a better environment for their family. When their Canadian residency permits were approved, Francis resigned from his banking career. However, because his employer required a year-long audit of his position before his departure, his wife and four children traveled to Canada ahead of him in 2013.
Upon completing the audit, Francis flew to Canada in November 2014 to join them. Upon landing at Calgary International Airport, he discovered that his wife had blocked his communication and withheld their home address. Left stranded at the airport and unable to establish contact with his family, he ultimately used his return ticket to fly back to Nigeria.
Reflecting on his financial contributions, Francis noted that he fully funded the relocation process for his wife and children, paid two years of rent in advance, and financially supported the household while his wife worked as a full-time homemaker.
Since 2016, Francis has sought reconciliation with his wife, though she has reportedly remained unwilling to reconnect and has restricted the children from communicating with him. While he is considering reaching out to Canadian authorities to clarify the circumstances of the separation, his main priority is restoring contact with his children to reassure them of his dedication and involvement as a father.
