President Bola Tinubu has returned to Nigeria following the conclusion of his working vacation abroad.
He touched down at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja on Tuesday, where he was welcomed by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu alongside other key officials and dignitaries. The arrival was also announced publicly on social media by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Olusegun Dada.
The trip began when President Tinubu departed Abuja on August 30. He initially spent a week in London before traveling onward to Paris, France, where his itinerary included a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to an official statement released by the President's Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the choice to arrive in Lagos rather than Abuja carries specific significance. The President elected to land in Lagos first to pay tribute to the late Chief MKO Abiola, the victor of the June 1993 presidential election and a foundational figure in the nation's democratic history. As part of these commemorations, President Tinubu is scheduled to attend the premiere of a biographical film honoring Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos, on October 1 in celebration of Independence Day.
Beyond these memorial events, the President's schedule in Lagos includes a series of strategic meetings with political leaders and close associates over the coming days as preparations ramp up for the upcoming 2027 general elections.
