Troops attached to Operation Hadin Kai successfully detected and neutralized an improvised explosive device (IED) on April 17 in Mairari, located along the strategic Gajiram axis of Borno State.

The discovery was made at approximately 9:00 am by a specialized Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and route-scanning team. The unit had been deployed from a nearby Forward Operating Base to secure the transit corridor.

Security sources said the IED was located near the town’s exit gate, raising concerns about potential risks to both civilians and personnel using the route.

The EOD team subsequently conducted a controlled detonation of the device without incident. Following the operation, the area was thoroughly scanned to ensure no additional explosives were present.

Preliminary assessments suggest the device may have been planted by insurgents prior to the deployment of troops to the location.

While the general security situation in the area remains relatively calm, sources cautioned that it is still unpredictable. They added that ongoing military operations are focused on securing communities and maintaining the safety of key transit routes.
