AKURE, ONDO STATE — Security concerns have intensified in the Ondo State capital following the abduction of at least six health workers during a daring midnight raid on a medical facility in the Oke Ijebu area.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. on Saturday at a health centre situated opposite Mega School. According to eyewitness accounts, a group of armed assailants arrived in a bus and forcibly entered the premises.
The gunmen reportedly rounded up the staff on duty—including several interns—and moved them into a waiting vehicle before fleeing to an unknown destination. While the attackers targeted medical personnel, patients undergoing treatment at the facility were reportedly left unharmed, though many remain in a state of shock.
Local residents have described the brazen nature of the attack as "alarming," noting that the facility is located within a busy residential vicinity. Community leaders are now calling for an immediate and coordinated intervention by state security agencies to ensure the safe rescue of the victims.
As of the time of this report, the Ondo State Police Command has yet to issue a formal statement regarding the identities of the victims or the progress of the investigation.
