Troops of the 22 Brigade, operating under Sector 1 of Operation Safe South-South (OPSS), have successfully dismantled several suspected terrorist hideouts during a targeted clearance operation in the Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The successful mission was reported by Zagazola Makama, a prominent counter-insurgency and security expert specializing in the Lake Chad region. According to Makama, the tactical maneuver commenced in the early hours of April 24, with units advancing from their staging point at Kamenji toward Tungan Mariga.

Key Operational Outcomes

The mission resulted in the disruption of insurgent infrastructure and the recovery of illicit hardware. Highlights of the engagement include:

  • Destruction of Encampments: Troops identified and destroyed multiple makeshift terrorist camps located in the vicinity of Nuku village.

  • Arms Recovery: Security forces recovered six Dane guns during the sweep of the area.

  • Strategic Reinforcement: To bolster the unit's tactical capabilities, troops were reinforced with an additional Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) outfitted with a QJC machine gun system.

Command Assessment and Progression

Following the initial sweep at Nuku, the contingent proceeded to Woro village. At this location, the Commanding Officer conducted a field assessment of the operation and addressed the personnel, emphasizing the importance of continued vigilance and operational excellence.

Security sources confirmed that the exercise was completed without significant resistance. The successful incursion marks a continued effort by the Nigerian military to deny criminal elements freedom of movement and to secure the border regions of Kwara State.
