Political friction has intensified between governors elected under the All Progressives Congress and Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike. The dispute centers on the minister's political maneuvers and his controversial "Rainbow Coalition" ahead of the upcoming general elections.

A former South-East spokesperson for President Bola Tinubu, Denge Onoh, weighed in on the ongoing feud, attributing the backlash from ruling party governors to the minister's history of leveraging outside alliances. According to the former aide, concerns within the ruling party stem from the minister's continued ties to opposition structures, noting that his network previously fielded hundreds of candidates for legislative and gubernatorial positions.

Critics argue that these activities threaten internal party cohesion and could undermine the ruling party's strategy. Observers note that the minister's political approach relies on maintaining high-stakes political battles, a strategy that previously surfaced during past presidential administrations.

The disagreement escalated following a televised interview where the FCT minister dismissed opposing governors, labeling their resistance as political laziness. In response, regional leaders and party governors—led by the Progressives Governors Forum chairman—firmly stated that they would not endorse or support any coalition that jeopardizes the president's re-election prospects or competes against party candidates.

While the minister maintains that supporting the administration does not preclude participation from other political platforms, ruling party stakeholders remain cautious about how these competing networks will impact the political landscape.
