Tinubu, Governors, Delegates Converge on Abuja for APC National Convention
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, members of the Federal Executive Council, 32 state governors, and 8,453 delegates are set to participate in the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), holding Friday and Saturday in Abuja.
The convention will bring together party stakeholders from national to ward levels to elect new party leaders and deliberate on policy direction. It is themed “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda.”
Speaking at a media briefing in Abuja, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, said the convention represents a key moment for leadership transition, policy engagement, and alignment with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that all logistical and operational arrangements have been finalised to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible exercise at Eagle Square.
Other top government officials present at the briefing included Hannatu Musawa, Festus Keyamo, Sunday Dare and Bayo Onanuga, among others.
Chairman of the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee, Aminu Masari, affirmed that the party’s zoning arrangements for elective positions remain in place and stated that no legal challenges had been formally served on the party. He expressed confidence in the readiness of all committees and the likelihood of a hitch-free convention.
Despite this, concerns have been raised by some party members over alleged exclusion from the process. A chieftain, Fubara Dagogo, filed a complaint at the Federal High Court but indicated he would pursue resolution through internal party mechanisms rather than seek to halt the convention. Similar concerns were also raised by Paul Oyiborume.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has directed civil servants within Abuja’s Federal Secretariat to work from home on Friday, citing road closures around Eagle Square due to the event. Authorities said the measure is to ease movement and ensure security during the convention.
Ahead of the gathering, hotels and guesthouses in the Federal Capital Territory have recorded full bookings, reflecting the large influx of delegates and party supporters.
The convention is expected to shape the party’s leadership structure and set the tone for political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
