The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially waived the physical screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the party’s upcoming presidential primary election.
The decision was reached during the NWC's 188th meeting held on Wednesday in Abuja. In a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the committee declared that the President is "duly screened" in accordance with the APC Constitution for the purpose of the primary.
Key Justifications for the Waiver
The NWC cited several factors for bypassing the standard screening process for the incumbent:
Stakeholder Endorsement: The committee highlighted a significant "vote of confidence" from vital party organs, including the Progressive Governors’ Forum and the leadership of the National Assembly.
Historical Clearance: The leadership noted that President Tinubu had already undergone rigorous screening and clearance prior to the 2022 presidential primaries.
Administrative Redundancy: As the sitting President and titular leader of the party, the NWC argued that requiring a formal appearance before a screening committee at this stage would be "redundant and unnecessary."
"The NWC noted that the President has received overwhelming endorsement... at the APC National Summit of May 22, 2025, and other major statutory events of the Party." — Felix Morka, APC Spokesperson
This resolution follows the momentum generated during the party's National Summit in May 2025, signaling a consolidated front within the APC as it prepares for the next electoral cycle.
