Former Governor of Anambra State Peter Obi

The leadership of the Obidient Movement has officially distanced itself from a breakaway group attempting to claim control of the organization’s identity and structure. The movement categorized these activities as a deliberate attempt to sow confusion among supporters and the general public.

The clarification follows a Thursday announcement by a separate entity identifying itself as the "Obedient Movement which claimed to have "sacked" the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, along with other prominent leaders.

Rejection of Parallel Structures

In a formal statement, the National Coordinator of the movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, dismissed the purported leadership change, asserting that the organization recognizes no faction or alternative hierarchy.

Tanko emphasized that the movement remains firmly aligned with the established framework centered around Peter Obi. Key points from the rebuttal include:

Institutional Integrity: The movement maintains that its leadership structure is unified and unauthorized groups cannot unilaterally dissolve it.

Deceptive Identities: Supporters and the media are urged to be wary of groups using "derivative or deceptively similar" names to exploit the movement's influence.

Unerring Vision: The leadership described the movement as a people-driven initiative founded on accountability, justice, and the pursuit of a "New Nigeria."

A Call for Vigilance

The statement described the emergence of the rival group as an "attempt to create confusion" and an effort by external interests to distract the movement from its mission.

"Attempts to misrepresent the movement’s identity or exploit its growing influence for ulterior interests will not distract us from our ongoing engagement with Nigerians at all levels," the statement read.

Official Communication Channels

To prevent further misinformation, the Obidient Movement urged its stakeholders both in Nigeria and the diaspora to rely exclusively on officially recognized channels for information.

The leadership concluded by reassuring its base that the vision for a restructured Nigeria remains "alive, clear, and unwavering," calling for unity and focus in the face of perceived external interference.
