Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke
The Osun State Government has filed a lawsuit at the High Court in Osogbo seeking an order of mandamus to compel security agencies to investigate Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi over alleged threats made ahead of the upcoming governorship election.
The legal action, marked HOS/M.157/26 and filed by Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice Oluwole Jimi-Bada, SAN, follows a widely circulated video from a political gathering in Ilesha. According to court filings, the footage allegedly captures statements directed at members of the Accord Party, prompting concerns over potential electoral violence and public safety.
The state government is asking the court to direct the Inspector-General of Police and the Osun State Commissioner of Police to investigate the video, conduct a forensic examination to verify its authenticity, and take immediate preventive measures to protect voters, candidates, and party members. Additionally, the suit requests that the police submit a compliance report within 48 hours.
Emphasizing that the judiciary is not being asked to determine criminal guilt, the government maintained that timely intervention is essential to uphold public order, prevent civil unrest, and safeguard lives ahead of the weekend election.
