APC, ADC Intensify Moves to Court Bala Mohammed Amid PDP Crisis
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, is at the centre of a growing political contest as the All Progressives Congress (APC) and African Democratic Congress (ADC) intensify efforts to win his allegiance amid the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
An APC delegation led by its National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, met with Mohammed in Bauchi on Tuesday, just a day after ADC leaders visited him on a similar mission.
The closed-door meeting, which lasted about an hour, focused on recent political developments, including ongoing defections. Although no official statement was issued, sources said the governor may soon announce his next move.
Mohammed, one of the few remaining influential PDP governors alongside Seyi Makinde, has voiced frustration over failed reconciliation efforts within the party. He accused a faction linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of derailing peace initiatives.
The governor disclosed that he had held multiple meetings with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, partly to address the PDP crisis and explore political options, including a possible defection.
Meanwhile, ADC leader Atiku Abubakar held talks with former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso as part of broader efforts to strengthen the party’s position ahead of future elections.
Wike, however, criticised Mohammed, questioning his consistency and dismissing his political moves. He insisted he remains a committed PDP member despite backing President Tinubu.
The ADC, on its part, said it was too late for the APC to secure Mohammed’s defection, expressing confidence in its rising influence.
With mounting pressure from both sides, Mohammed’s expected decision is likely to reshape the political landscape in the coming months.
