Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has stated that opposition parties consistently accuse the federal government of electoral manipulation when they lose while celebrating their victories. Speaking in Abuja, Wike commended President Bola Tinubu’s administration for maintaining a hands-off approach that allows democratic processes to unfold independently.
Reflecting on the political landscape, Wike contrasted the unpredictability and tension of the 2023 elections with the current trajectory, asserting that the 2027 presidential contest will present a straightforward path for President Tinubu. He characterized the existing political opposition as fragmented and lacking strategic direction, noting that unseating an incumbent requires years of dedicated planning rather than last-minute coalition building.
Furthermore, Wike dismissed the national impact of smaller political factions, such as the African Democratic Congress, and argued that localized successes in state governorship races do not translate to national electoral viability. Addressing public concerns regarding the economy, he emphasized that leadership should be evaluated based on deliberate and practical problem-solving efforts rather than public sentiment.
