The Nigerian football community is in mourning following the sudden death of former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo, who passed away on Friday after collapsing during a football match in Kaduna State.

Details of the Incident

According to reports from SCORENigeria, the 40-year-old forward was participating in a local game at the Angwan Yelwa pitch in the Television area of Kaduna. Eneramo reportedly entered the match as a second-half substitute but collapsed shortly after without any physical contact with other players.

Witnesses at the scene indicated that immediate efforts were made to revive the former international on the pitch, but they proved unsuccessful. He was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was tragically pronounced dead.

A Distinguished Career

Eneramo was a prominent figure in African and European football during his professional career. Known for his physical presence and scoring clinical ability, his journey included:

  • Esperance de Tunis (Tunisia): Where he became a club legend and one of the highest-scoring foreign players in the league's history.

  • Beşiktaş (Turkey): Competing at the highest levels of the Turkish Süper Lig.

  • Lobi Stars (Nigeria): Representing his home league before moving abroad.

  • International Duty: Capped several times for the Super Eagles, Nigeria's senior national team.

Following his retirement from professional play, Eneramo remained dedicated to the sport, focusing his efforts on grassroots development through his own football academy.

Tributes Pour In

The news has sparked a wave of tributes across social media. The official Super Eagles X (formerly Twitter) account honored the late striker on Friday, sharing a photograph of Eneramo with the simple, somber caption: "Rest in peace, Michael."

The football world continues to offer condolences to his family and colleagues as they grapple with the loss of a powerhouse of the Nigerian game.
