Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, alleging that the administration remains focused on political engagements despite escalating security challenges across the nation.

In a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku highlighted the ongoing captivity of schoolchildren and teachers abducted in Oyo State three weeks ago. He argued that the federal government appears more invested in partisan activities than in addressing the distress of the victims' families.

Concerns Raised Over Government Priorities

The statement emphasized the contrast between the ongoing ordeal of the families, who have been in distress since the May 15 abductions, and recent public events involving government officials. Atiku noted that the public has recently witnessed numerous political gatherings, celebrations, and the distribution of vehicles to political allies.

Atiku specifically pointed to the public engagements of First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, questioning the appropriateness of celebratory events given the current security situation.

He stated that an administration representing the nation should not preside over political festivities or celebrate while families are trapped in agony, praying daily for the safe return of their loved ones. Instead, he argued that every available platform should be used to keep the plight of the children at the forefront of national consciousness until they are safely reunited with their families.

Political Context

Atiku, who is the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate for the 2027 elections, questioned how the administration could maintain an atmosphere of celebration while citizens remain in the custody of kidnappers. He called on the government to utilize its platform to keep the rescue of the abducted citizens at the forefront of national priorities.
