LONDON:  The Metropolitan Police have charged 45 year old Essa Suleiman with attempted murder following a stabbing on Wednesday that left two Jewish men injured in Golders Green, North London. Authorities are officially treating the assault as a terrorist incident.

Incident Details and Victim Status

The victims have been identified as Shloime Rand, 34, and Moshe Shine, 76. Emergency services transported both men to the hospital following the attack. According to a local rabbi, Mr. Rand has since been discharged and is continuing his recovery at home.

National Threat Level Escalation

In a concurrent development, the United Kingdom’s terrorism threat level has been elevated to "Severe." Under the UK’s five-tier system, this classification indicates that an attack is considered "highly likely" within the next six months.

The Home Office utilizes the following framework to assess national risk:

  • Critical: An attack is highly likely in the near future.

  • Severe: An attack is highly likely.

  • Substantial: An attack is likely.

  • Moderate: An attack is possible but not likely.

  • Low: An attack is highly unlikely.

Government and Security Response

The Security Minister stated that while the Golders Green attack is a grave concern, the decision to raise the threat level was "not solely as a result" of this specific event, but based on a broader assessment of the current intelligence climate.

"The public should remain alert and vigilant but not alarmed," the Minister advised, emphasizing that security services are working at an increased capacity to mitigate potential risks.

The Metropolitan Police have increased patrols in Golders Green and surrounding neighborhoods to provide community reassurance as the investigation into Suleiman continues.
