United States President Donald Trump has announced that a comprehensive peace agreement designed to conclude the conflict in the Middle East is slated for signing on Sunday. According to the president, the implementation of this accord will prompt the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to international maritime traffic.

In a statement released on his Truth Social platform, Trump voiced strong optimism regarding the agreement, emphasizing its potential to restore regional stability and secure global trade networks. Given that the Strait of Hormuz serves as one of the most vital global choke points for oil transportation, its unrestricted status is anticipated to have immediate, major implications for international energy markets.

Discrepancies Over Timeline

Despite the optimistic timeline presented by Washington, statements emerging from Tehran suggest a potential delay in the formalization of the pact. The Iranian Foreign Ministry indicated that while an agreement remains possible in the near future, the signing of the memorandum of understanding would not take place on Sunday. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei noted that the exact date remains to be finalized, though he did not rule out a conclusion to the negotiations in the coming days.

Nuclear Stockpile Provisions and Strategic Warnings

The proposed agreement also addresses the status of Iran's enriched uranium. Trump outlined a strategy to secure and neutralize the material once the situation stabilizes, indicating that U.S. strategic bombers would be utilized to access deeply buried facilities. The retrieved material would subsequently undergo a downblending process to ensure its destruction, a procedure that could take place either within Iran or the United States. Throughout the negotiation process, Iran has consistently defended its right to enrich uranium.

While expressing a desire for long-term diplomatic and economic cooperation across the Middle East, the U.S. president closed his statement with a strict warning. He signaled that while a smooth and rapid transition is preferred, the United States retains decisive alternative options should compliance issues arise.
