The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have announced a criminal investigation into a 2024 incident in Gaza City that resulted in the deaths of five-year-old Hind Rajab, six members of her family, and two responding paramedics.

The investigation, to be conducted by the Military Police Criminal Investigation Division, will focus specifically on alleged failures regarding the coordination of the Palestine Red Crescent Society ambulance dispatched to the scene.

Initially, the military stated that no troops were operating in the area during the event. However, subsequent reviews confirmed that forces were active in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood as part of broader military operations.

The case gained widespread international attention following the release of audio recordings capturing the child's final communications before contact was lost. The United Nations has previously referenced the incident in inquiries regarding military conduct, while the state denies allegations of war crimes.

In addition to this case, military authorities announced reviews into separate incidents involving the deaths of aid workers and medical personnel in Rafah. Meanwhile, investigations into prior incidents involving international relief organizations, including World Central Kitchen and Médecins Sans Frontières, concluded without grounds for criminal proceedings.

The military's internal review processes are subject to significant international scrutiny amid ongoing legal evaluations by global bodies regarding accountability and operational conduct in the region.
