President Donald Trump announced today that the current ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon will be extended by three weeks following a high level summit at the White House. While the extension provides a temporary reprieve, diplomatic sources suggest a comprehensive long-term peace agreement remains elusive, requiring significant American involvement to address the disarmament of Hezbollah.

Diplomatic Pressure and the Iranian Stance

The extension comes amid a backdrop of increasingly assertive rhetoric and military action directed at Tehran. In an interview with the BBC, President Trump defended his administration's aggressive posture toward Iran, stating, "Whatever I'm doing, it seems to be working very well."

Despite this confidence, the President signaled a measured approach to formal negotiations during a later briefing in the Oval Office. "I don't want to rush myself," Trump told reporters, indicating that while the administration is open to a deal, it will proceed only on terms favorable to U.S. interests.

Maritime Assertiveness and Regional Control

Tensions escalated further on the high seas as the U.S. military confirmed that American forces boarded a vessel carrying Iranian oil in the Indian Ocean. This manoeuvre aligns with President Trump’s recent assertions that the United States maintains "total control" over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global chokepoint for energy supplies.

In response to the administration's claims that the Iranian leadership is fractured by internal infighting, top officials in Tehran issued statements emphasizing "iron unity" within the government.

Security Outlook: Israel Prepared for Escalation

The regional security situation remains volatile. Israel’s Defense Minister has publicly stated that the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are prepared to resume military operations against Iranian interests should the United States provide authorization. The Minister issued a stark warning, suggesting that any renewed conflict could see an escalation designed to significantly degrade Iran's infrastructure and national stability.
