CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va: Five people were injured, including one critically, following a shooting incident involving multiple suspects outside a residence hall on the campus of Virginia State University.
Law enforcement officers responded to the scene at approximately 01:28 local time on Saturday. Emergency responders transported all five victims to local hospitals for treatment. Four individuals sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while one person remained in critical condition. One of the victims has since been identified as a university student, and another is under the age of 18. The injured student has received medical treatment and been discharged from the hospital.
A temporary campus lockdown was implemented following the incident and has since been lifted. However, a significant law enforcement presence remains on site as the investigation continues. Chesterfield County Police are leading the inquiry with assistance from campus police and local law enforcement agencies.
Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage and searching for suspects, as no arrests have been made and the individuals involved remain at large. Authorities have confirmed that none of the five injured individuals are currently considered suspects.
The incident occurred just ahead of the new academic term, with campus dormitories having opened for returning students on Friday and classes scheduled to begin on Monday. Virginia State University enrolls approximately 5,000 students and is located south of Richmond, Virginia.
