Man Charged With Murder Denies Killing Film Student in Court
A man accused of fatally stabbing a 21-year-old film student at Primrose Hill has denied the allegation during a court appearance.
Oluwadamilola Ogunyankinnu, 27, appeared at Stratford Magistrates’ Court in east London on Monday, where he is charged with the murder of Finbar Sullivan. The court heard that Sullivan died following an alleged stabbing during a disturbance in the north London park last Tuesday.
During the hearing, Ogunyankinnu confirmed his name, address and date of birth. Although he was not asked to enter a plea, he addressed the court, stating: “I didn’t kill anybody. I didn’t stab anybody. Police got the wrong person.”
District Judge Ashwinder Gill remanded the defendant in custody, citing the seriousness of the charge. He is due to appear next at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.
Ogunyankinnu was arrested on Friday and formally charged with murder on Sunday. A 25-year-old individual previously arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has since been released without further action.
The court was told that the incident occurred in broad daylight at Primrose Hill, where large crowds had gathered. Witnesses reported a fight breaking out, with multiple individuals involved.
Tributes have since been left at the scene for Sullivan, including customised T-shirts bearing his image and nickname.
Sullivan’s father described his son as a talented and dedicated young filmmaker who had recently purchased a new camera. He said his son had been at the park filming when the incident occurred.
Detective Inspector Andy Griffin, of the Metropolitan Police, said the investigation is ongoing and appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant footage to come forward, noting that the घटना took place in a busy public area.
