The Oyo State Police Command has disclosed that an insider provided critical routine details that facilitated the recent kidnapping of Mrs. Olaide Busayo Adegoke John-Paul sister to former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and her 12 year-old twin sons.

Investigation and Key Arrests

Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ayanlade Olayinka shared updates on the ongoing investigation. He revealed that the breakthrough in the case came after tracking and arresting a primary suspect, known as Ololu, who was already on the command’s watch list.

Subsequent interrogations led operatives to a second suspect, identified as Dare (alias Solution), and a personal assistant to the family named Shehu. According to the police, Shehu was allegedly approached by the criminal network to provide confidential information regarding the family’s daily schedule, lifestyle, and movements.

The Abduction and Altered Plans

The victims were abducted on June 3, 2026, in the Elewura area of Ring Road, Ibadan, while en route to school. Investigators noted that the suspects had originally intended to kidnap only Mrs. John-Paul after monitoring her routine. However, upon realizing a driver normally took the children to school, they altered their plans to target the children instead. On the day of the incident, the mother unexpectedly drove the children herself, prompting the suspects to abduct all three individuals.

Tactical Rescue Operation

Following a directive from the Inspector-General of Police, a coordinated operation was launched by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police alongside the Force Intelligence Department’s Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT).

On June 6, 2026, at approximately 7:30 p.m., security forces traced the victims to a hideout in Ibadan. During the rescue attempt, a suspect named Kelechi, who had reportedly traveled from Lagos to participate in the crime, opened fire on the tactical team alongside an accomplice. Security operatives returned fire, neutralizing both suspects.

Current Status

The victims were successfully rescued without sustaining any physical injuries, and several weapons were recovered from the scene. The Oyo State Police Command confirmed that the remaining suspects are currently in custody, and the investigation remains active as authorities track down other fleeing members of the syndicate.
