ABUJA, NIGERIA: The Federal High Court of Nigeria has enacted the Federal High Court (Pre-Election) Practice Directions, 2026, establishing a updated framework intended to expedite and streamline the resolution of pre-election disputes nationwide.
Approved by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Hon. Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, the newly implemented guidelines officially replace and repeal the previous 2022 Practice Directions. According to an official statement released by the court's Director of Information, Dr. Catherine Oby Christopher, the rules are structured to reinforce the adjudication of political disputes in strict compliance with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the Electoral Act of 2026, and relevant statutory provisions.
The judiciary has advised legal practitioners, political organizations, litigants, and the public to review the updated directions to ensure compliance during legal proceedings. Official copies of the text have been distributed to stakeholders to facilitate seamless adaptation to the new procedural standards.
